Medicines Information: SPC & PILs
Every medicine pack includes a patient information leaflet (PIL), which provides information on using the medicine safely. PILs are based on the Summaries of Product Characteristics (SPCs) which are a description of a medicinal product’s properties and the conditions attached to its use.
This information is arranged in an A-Z list by active substance. You can also use the freetext search box on the left to find a particular medicine using its generic name or brand name.
We are publishing this information in stages. This first wave is for products that have been checked and are up to date with the licensing history. Information on further products will be added over the coming months.
This is the most up–to-date information for a medicine according to its licence history. Please note that it is not unusual for a medicine to have its leaflet updated several times within its lifecycle. Consequently there could be differences between the version of the PIL shown here and leaflet accompanying the medicine when it is purchased or dispensed.
Logistically it can take several months for updated information to appear in packaging. It is also possible that some leaflets shown here may be unformatted because the final format is not currently available.
The MHRA holds data for medicines that are licensed at a national level. Some medicines are licensed centrally by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). For product information on these medicines, please consult the EMA website:
